Race Preview: Kobalt Tools 400 (brought to you by Kobalt Tools)

10 Mar

The NASCAR Sprint Cup descends on Sin City tomorrow for the Kobalt Tools 400. This is the third official race of the Sprint Cup season.

Last weekend, in the desert of Arizona, we raced using the metric system (kilometers). This weekend, we’re still in the desert, but we’re back to the imperial system (miles) used at Daytona. The race will go 400 miles (well, 400.5, to be exact), barring a green-white-checkered finish.

Apparently, the most unique thing about this race is that the winner receives a championship belt instead of a trophy, although the picture below makes me believe that the winner is just rewarded with a giant wrench. I guess I’ll find out after the race.

Here’s all you need to know to prepare for the race:

  • Location: Las Vegas, NV
  • Track name: Las Vegas Motor Speedway
  • Track shape: Tri-oval
  • Banking: 20 degrees
  • Lap length: 1.5 miles
  • Race distance: 400.5 miles / 267 laps
  • Last year’s winner: Carl Edwards

As always, I’ll be tweeting my comments and questions about NASCAR during the race from my Twitter account: @NASCARneophyte. If you can answer my questions, please do. I’m here to learn!

Enjoy the race everyone.
